Three kinds of farming in one short drive
The country changes fast east of the Hills. There is dairy on the river flats around Jervois, livestock around Murray Bridge, and wheat and barley out through the Mallee. South Australia's Primary Industries department describes the Murraylands as growing into a hub for raising and processing livestock.
All of it needs steel that holds up: yards, gates, trailers, feeders and machinery. We are set up for mobile repairs on the farm, and the workshop in Nairne is an easy run from this side of the Hills.
When a breakdown hurts most
Seeding from about Anzac Day into winter, hay in spring and grain harvest from about November. On a dairy farm the yards are in use every day, so there is no quiet week to wait for. If something has let go, send us a photo and tell us where it is.
The fire danger season can start earlier here
The Murraylands has its own fire ban district. Last season it started a month before the Mount Lofty Ranges, and the boundary runs close to us, between Kanmantoo and Callington. So a job at Callington or Murray Bridge can be under fire danger season rules while Nairne is not yet. Check your district on the CFS site.
