NL Welding and Fabrication works on farm gates and repairs stock feeders across the Adelaide Hills, Murraylands, Barossa and Upper Coorong in South Australia. Small jobs can come to the workshop in Nairne. Big gates and feeders that are hard to shift can be fixed where they sit.

Farm gates

Most gate problems come from the hinge end: the post moves, the hinge wears or a weld lets go, and the gate starts to drop. Send us a photo of the hinge end as well as the whole gate.

Stock feeders

Stock are hard on feeders. They rub, push and lean on the same bars every day, and a cracked bar soon turns into a broken frame. We repair feeders so they can stay in use.

How it works

Three steps to back at work.

  1. Send a photo or call

Tell us what has broken and where it is. A photo of the break helps us work out what the job needs.

  2. Get a free quote

We work out the job and quote it, then you decide. Quotes are free.

  3. Back to work

Bring it to the workshop in Nairne, or we come out to you and fix it on site.

Questions people ask

How do you fix a sagging gate?

First work out why it dropped. It is usually the post moving, a worn hinge or a weld that has let go. A loose post has to be fixed before the gate will hang right, so send us a photo of the hinge end as well as the whole gate.

Can you weld galvanised steel?

Galvanised steel welds well, with closer control than bare steel. The zinc burns off near the arc, so the edges are usually ground clean first. The fumes need good ventilation, because zinc fumes can cause metal fume fever.

The weld area then needs its rust protection put back. On site, that usually means a zinc-rich paint.

Will the weld rust?

Bare weld will rust if it is left that way. On galvanised steel the coating has to be put back over the weld. On painted steel it needs priming and painting: on one recent job we primed and sprayed the brackets, ready for pickup.
